Knitting honeycomb stitch in the round

A while ago I made a video demonstrating how to knit honeycomb stitch. This video is supporting Honeycomb Sweater and Tam pattern. Then I've got a few questions as to knitting honeycomb in the round. I promised to make a video about that too, but got really "gobbled" by my other day-to-day tasks. As I don't want to keep you waiting too long, I'll try to explain knitting honeycomb in the round as clear as I can in this post. If you watched the video you will remember that it all wounds down to two basic things : 1. In every RS row you should knit every stitch except for yarn overs. Those yarn overs are slipped purlwise with yarn at back of your work. 2. In every WS row you knit together all stitch+yarn over pairs, make a yarn over in front of each lonely stitch and slip those lonely stitches purlwise with yarn at back of the work. Calculating the length of yarn "tail" in long tail cast on

This small issue can cause a lot of frustration when casting on using long tail cast on method. The yarn tail is always either too short or too long. The worst thing is that you see it only when you've already cast on a hundred stitches or so... Several days ago I came across an interesting thread at http://www.knittingparadise.com/ discussing this problem. The knitters suggested quite a few ways of calculating the length of yarn tail BEFORE starting to cast on. Here's a summary of what was suggested: 1. The length of tail is 1 inch per 1 stitch. That is, if you need to cast on 50 stitches, the tail should be 50 inches. Should work fine for worsted weight yarn. 2. Another lady suggested to wind yarn loosely around needle so many times as the number of stitches you need, then to let the loops go - that's the tail. 3. Another way to estimate is to leave tail 3 times longer than finished knit. For example, if you cast on for a back of sweater 50 cm (20") wide,
