I came up with this technique while working on the Lollipop jacket.
The problem was that I wanted to make button bands in garter stitch and in tangerine color while knitting the rest of the jacket in colorful slip stitch pattern. Of course I could pick up stitches for button band from the edges of two halves of the front but then button band wouldn't flow organically from the garter stitch band at the bottom of the jacket. Besides, it's always fun to try some new ideas :-)
So I just set aside several stitches for button band and knit the band after I finished the jacket. I explained this easy no-sew way to join button band to a jacket in the video tutorial below.
